I am an astronomer from Montana living in Italy, mapping the Milky Way, and defending the dark sky.  As the father of a 10 year old, I am also looking for ways to reduce the damage we’re doing to our atmosphere, hoping to make his future more livable.

My primary field of interest is Galactic studies, wherein I hope to understand better the structure, dynamics and evolution of our Milky Way.  This goal has led me to be heavily involved in the Gaia mission.
