NGGT stands for “New Generation Ground_Based Green Telescope“, one of the author’s patented systems that specifically provides an innovative answer to a number of problems that have not yet been considered simultaneously in the entire design and construction process of large astronomical observatories, namely short- and long-term environmental impact, energy sustenance, operational flexibility, degree of automation, inherent performance obsolescence, and, consequently, construction time and cost. The article briefly recalls the characteristic aspects of the project and outlines the concepts and methods used to minimize the carbon footprint throughout the design process and in the production, operation and maintenance phases.
