IDENTIFICATION OF ASTEROID FAMILIES
SHORT DESCRIPTION
This project, carried out in collaboration with the University of Pisa and the Observatories of Belgrade and Nice, is aimed at
developing algorithms devoted to the identification of the so-called asteroid dynamical families. These are groups of objects sharing
close similarities in their orbital proper elements, interpreted as the outcomes of collisional disruptions of single parent bodies. Families
are important to understand the collisional history of the main asteroid belt, and to identify objects coming from the internal
layers of larger parent bodies fragmented by catastrophic collisions
